| 摘 要： | 周瘦鹃于1919年5月受聘于《申报?自由谈》,为特约撰稿人,即时为《自由谈》开辟多种专栏,使这一副刊版面焕然一新。其时正值"五四",他及时报道上海"三罢"浪潮,爱憎分明地撰写有关"五四"题材的小说。1920年4月他正式就任《自由谈》主编,在副刊上亦注重以短小精悍的政论发挥舆论监督作用,为广大市民代言。在声誉益隆中他又成为主持多种文艺刊物的名编。他殚精竭虑,标新立异,力争使自己所编的刊物成为通俗文学期刊中的精品。
