中国现代知识分子小说,特别是其中的经典之作,已成为当代知识分子文学的源头和先导,是当今作家创作知识分子题材作品和当今读者解读知识分子题材作品的不可或缺的精神资源和参照系统。“五四”及二十年代前半期,是知识分子题材小说创作的第一个高峰,鲁迅是第一个、也是最伟大的开拓者,叶绍钧是中坚,张闻天的《路途》有其特殊意义,其他“三派四种”中的作品是其“平均分数”,多写感受,少写性格是其特点,也是其弱点。

On the History of Modern Chinese Novels on Intellectuals (Ⅰ)

Modern Chinese novels on intellectuals, esp. those classics, have become not only the source and precursor of modern intellectual literature but also the indispensable mental resource and reference system for modern writers in their creation of works themed on intellectuals and for modern readers in their interpretation of writings with the same subject matter. The "May 4th Movement" and the early 1920s were the first summit of creation for works themed on intellectuals, and Lu Xun was the first and the greatest pioneer while Ye Shao-jun was the backbone. The Road by Zhang Wen-tian was endowed with a unique significance whereas works by other writers were characterized by a stronger emphasis on impressions than on temperament, which was also a defect.
