Abstract:Based on the microporous adsorption characteristics of artificial zeolite,a method of preparing gassy soft soil by using zeolite was proposed.The relationship between the amount of zeolite and the amount of replacement gas was studied by zeolite adsorption/desorption tests on four different gases:CH4,N2,CO2 and H2.The gas distribution in soil samples was investigated by CT(Computed Tomography)scanning test.Based on the vane tests,the relationship between undrained shear strength of soil and the content of zeolite was analyzed.Results show thatunder the same condition,the amount of replacement gas(CH4,N2,CO2 and H2)is linearly proportional to the content of zeolite;the volume of yielding gas in CH4 and N2 are almost the same,followed by H2,and the amount of CO2 is the smallest;with a small amount of zeolite,the undrained shear strength of soil samples is not affected by the zeolite,and air bubbles are evenly distributed in the prepared soil.The method proposed in this work can be better applied to the quantitative and controlled preparation of gassy soil in laboratory.
