An Analysis of Vague Language in Intercultural Communication and Its Enlightenment to English Teaching

Vague language is common in communications,and vagueness is the inner attribute of all languages,which is also an inevitable pragmatic strategy in intercultural communication.Vague language in intercultural communication is often characterized by indeterminacy,determinacy and variability.In addition,cultural elements such as traditional custom,geographical environment,cultural context and value system have a great impact upon vague language,which functions pragmatically with conversational implication,the maxims of the CP,PP and face theory as well.This analysis also offers certain enlightenment to English teaching.
