The paper uncovers the social status and mentality of the intellectual from the respect of love affairs between the intellectual and the actress written in Yuan--dynasty zaju plays. It analyzes the social cause and deep--rooted psychology of the intellectuals creating such love plays between the intellectual and the actress through the approaches of the statement of the stiff life in reality and the smooth one in imaginary plays.
