论五四科学思潮的进步意义及历史局限性

五四时期,宣传科学形成了一股强大的社会思潮。这既是爱国主义的进步思潮,又是反封建、倡民主的启蒙思潮,它不但为我国科技事业的建立与发展打下了重要基础,而且推动了中国社会的政治、经济、教育、文化、学术等广泛领域走向现代化。与此同时,它又是一种有着严重局限的片面性思潮。它片面强调科学救国,但在旧中国,科学救不了国;它具有浓厚的科学主义色彩;另外还有影响范围有限,对科学研究提倡不够等诸多缺陷与不足。

A Comment on the Progressive Value and the Historical Limits of the May the Fourth Movement

During the May the Fourth Movement, disseminating science became a powerful social ideological trend. It was not only an advanced ideological trend of patriotism, but an enlightening trend of anti-feudalism and of advocating democracy. It not only laid important foundations for establishing and developing scientific causes in our country, but also boosted the modernization in extensive fields of Chinese society, such as politics, economy, education, culture, academy, etc. However, it was also a one-sided ideological trend with its severe limitations. It unilaterally stressed the importance of saving our nation by science, which was not possible at that time; it was deeply colorized by scientism; its influences were limited due to its defects and insufficiencies such as failing to fully advocate scientific research, etc.
