19世纪末20世纪初,美国历史上掀起了一场全国性的社会政治改革运动,这场运动的重要特色之一就是美国妇女(主要是指中产阶级的白人妇女)积极参与,并取得了相当可观的成果。主要集中在禁酒、保护女工和童工、设立少年法庭等方面,特别是1920年妇女争取选举权的胜利,反映了美国中产阶级白人妇女运动逐渐远离了分离领域文化。

American White Middle-Class Women and the Progressive Movement

There was the nationally social and political reform movements in America during the late 19th century and early 20th – the Progressive Movement.One especially remarkable aspect of the Progressive Movement was the full involvement of American women and their achievements.I concluded that: first,the huge social and economic changes during the decades between 1890 and 1920 had accentuated the differences between home or family and politics,private sphere and public sphere.Consequently,it was conducive to the American women’s involvement on the Progressive Movement.Secondly,the achievements of American women reformers focused on the helping sphere.On the general speaking,these women reforms were not contradictory with the ideology of the Cult of the True Womanhood.However,with the victory of woman suffrage in 1920,American white woman had moved away from the separate sphere and begun to enter into politics.
