Designing User-Focused Marketing Culture in Academic Libraries: A Conceptual Outline

ABSTRACT

To design an outline of a user-focused marketing model and its implication in academic libraries is the goal of this article. The determinants for the proposed model were primarily derived from the success factors of customer-focused marketing noted in earlier research, and views and insights from a number of allied constituencies in Bangladesh. Doing this job, the study used exploratory investigation in the form of executive interview, focus group discussion, and questionnaire survey. To examine reliability of the determinants “item-total correlation” was applied. The proposed model shows quality service has been seen as a direct result of the quality of library products, services, and service providers that leads to ensure user satisfaction and loyalty. It also demonstrates how users are the central theme from all functional perspectives of library services. The model emphasizes the quality improvement and operational efficiencies are to be working together to achieve a competitive advantage. The model may help librarians understand how to set the users as the central theme from all functional perspectives of the library services.

高校图书馆数字资源的使用成效--对中山大学研究生样本的观察

随着数字资源建设投入的持续增长,高校图书馆需要明确、客观有力的事实和数据证明其数字资源建设对学校长期战略目标的支持。文章通过文献调研梳理图书馆数字资源使用成效评估的相关问题,从学业成就、学术成就、信息素养能力与职业能力等4个方面构建研究生视角下的高校图书馆数字资源使用成效评估维度,探究研究生图书馆数字资源使用频率与其使用成效之间的关联。来自中山大学研究生样本的观察表明:研究生的数字资源使用频率与其使用成效各维度间均存在显著的正相关关系;硕士研究生、博士研究生在图书馆数字资源使用成效上存在显著性差异;图书馆数字资源的使用成效受到学科影响。面向不同类型用户,高校图书馆数字资源使用成效具有多种表现形式,需要从定性与定量角度,综合采用多种方法加以描述和测评。高校图书馆还应关注影响研究生对图书馆数字资源使用成效的感知与体验的因素,并围绕这些因素改进数字资源的建设与服务质量,进一步促进数字资源价值的实现。     

移动信息服务在国内高校图书馆中的应用模式分析

随着移动信息技术的发展,高校校园开始流行和普及利用手机、电子书阅读器、平板电脑等终端设备进行移动信息服务,SMS服务、WAP服务、移动参考咨询、电子书外借服务等模式相继出现。本文通过对国内31个省份共计820所普通本科院校图书馆进行系统调查,对国内高校图书馆的四种移动信息服务应用模式进行了深入分析,并结合国外高校图书馆成功的经验就国内高校图书馆移动信息服务的发展作了一定的探讨。

文章从学术成果产出数量和学术影响力两个维度,对我国30所"985工程"大学图书馆从核心期刊发文数量和分布情况、论文被引数量和频次、论文的基金资助情况和论文国际化程度进行量化分析,并对一流大学图书馆的整体学术能力进行了综合评价和排名。     

Library Instruction Assessment in Academic Libraries

SUMMARY

Determining the best methods of assessment for a library instruction program in a large research university can be a challenging task. Albert R. Mann Library at Cornell University Library has pilot-tested three methods of formative and summative assessment for its library instruction program-attitudinal, outcomes-based, and gap-measure-and determined not only key areas of improvement for the program, but also the benefits and drawbacks of each method of assessment. Attitudinal assessment has guided program improvement in areas of marketing and user satisfaction but does not provide the measurement of learning that outcomes-based assessment covers. The latter can be difficult to achieve in single-session, short-term instruction, while gap-measure assessment can provide a more nuanced view of both patron and instructor attitudes toward learning outcomes, if not actual data on achievement of the objectives themselves. The authors have determined that a combination of these three different types of assessment can address the shortcomings of a single method alone and provide a better measure of the program as a whole.

Aligning the Assessment Process in Academic Libraries for Improved Demonstration and Reporting of Organizational Performance

ABSTRACT

Academic libraries are facing increased demands for improved accountability while the academic library service environment is in a constant flux of transition. Aligned assessment processes focus on integrating and aligning the assessment process components of assessment, capacity, stakeholders, participation, technology and organizational leadership to improve their effectiveness and their results. Libraries that can effectively align their assessment processes to the service environment in which they operate will be more successful in demonstrating and reporting assessment of their organizational performance to stakeholders, thus increasing access to strategic opportunities and resources. doi:10.1300/J106v14n03_08
